Electrolytic extraction of metal is a way to make pure metal that the reduction reaction of metal ions ,to be extracted in the electrolyte after purification treatment, takes place on the surface of the cathodic metal with high potential.
The production of non-ferrous metals can be directly obtained from the extraction of pure metals by electrolysis and it can skip the middle procedure of smelting coarse metal. Dimensionally stable anodes are used in this process a lot in metal refinery industry.Electrolytic metallurgy in the wet metallurgical industry has a large proportion. In this way,the non-ferrous metals, such as Zn, Cd, Cu, Mn, Co, Ni, Cr, and so on, are produced by electrolytic metallurgy. Electrolytic extraction can be carried out in a solution of chloride, sulphate and mixed solution of chloride and sulfate.
Application of titanium anode in electrolytic metallurgy:
Electrolytic extraction of non-ferrous metals can be carried out in the chloride electrolyte, sulfate electrolyte and chloride sulfate mixed electrolyte. It requires a good stability of anode, corrosion resistance,a long lifespan and a good electrocatalytic activity to reduce the anode reaction over potential and tank voltage. It is difficult to choose suitable anode materials for the extraction of metals from electrolytic metallurgy. In recent years, titanium anode has been widely applied to the field of metals refinery.
Application of electrolytic metallurgy:
Electrolytic extraction of tungsten, nickel, cobalt, manganese, chromium, zinc, cadmium
Electrolytic extraction of Copper of high extraction
Electrolytic extraction of precious metals and recovery
Copper deposition of circuit board etching solution
Electrolytic metallurgy in three different solutions :
1. Electrolytic extraction of metals from chloride solutions
Chloride solution was mainly occurred on the anode in the electrolysis of chloride solution. The coating titanium anode has the characteristics of low chlorine potential, good electrical conductivity, strong corrosion resistance, long service life and so on. After doing electrode modification, Elade company can further improve the anode’s potential of oxygen evolution and prolong the working life of anode.
2.Electrolytic extraction of metal from sulfate solution
The electrolytic metal in sulfate solution needs the anode with these features:high electrocatalytic activity, good electrical conductivity and long service life.Compared with the lead silver anode, the titanium anode has better electrical conductivity, and the cell voltage can be reduced by 0.5 V. It has the characteristics of energy saving and consumption reduction, and the impurity of the cathode product is low, and the product quality can be effectively improved. As an insoluble anode, It has no environmental pollution and it is environmentally friendly product.
3. Extraction of metal from mixed solution of chloride and sulfate
When the mixed system of chloride and sulfate electrolysis works, the anode evolutes chlorine and oxygen at the same time, and the anode is in a more demanding working condition, and the corrosion resistance of the material is higher than that of the single salt system. Elade company developed titanium anode with gradient composite coating which is made for metal refinery in mixed solution of chloride and sulfate, under this condition, titanium anode shows good performance. For example, in the production of cobalt, working life can reach up to 1 year, and basically solve the corrosion problems.
