Gold plating is a very common decorative process, represented by a very thin layer of gold plated on the surface of the vessel, gold plating is divided into two categories, one is presented as homogeneous material gold plating, and the other is heterogeneous material gold plating. Homogeneous material gold plating refers to the surface of gold jewellery for gold plating treatment, its significance is to improve the brightness and colour of the jewellery.

First, the principle of electroplating
1, when the power supply is added in the platinum titanium mesh (anode) and silicon (cathode) between, the solution will be the onset of current, and the formation of electric field. The anode oxidation reaction releases electrons, and the cathode gets electrons to attack the reduction reaction;

2, the cathode adjacent to the complex state of the gold ions and electrons combined, in the form of gold atoms stacked on the exterior of the silicon wafer. Plating solution in the complex state of gold ions in the effect of the applied electric field, to the cathode directed to move and supplement the concentration of cathode neighbourhood depletion;

3, the main intention of electroplating is to pile up a layer of dense, uniform, no holes, no gaps, no other defects of gold on the silicon wafer.

Second, the characteristics of electroplated gold
Electroplated gold has a history of more than two hundred years, gold plating has a golden yellow appearance, with good chemical stability, resistance to discolouration, electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance, at the same time, weldability, low contact resistance, can be hot pressure bonding performance is excellent, so that the electroplated gold plating can be used both as a decorative plating. Also can be used as functional, protective plating. Therefore, gold plating is widely used in jewellery, clocks and watches, handicrafts, as well as electronics, instruments, meters, aviation, aerospace and other industrial fields.
